Labindalawang araw ng pasko!

The Twelve Days Of Christmas

There is one Christmas Carol that has always baffled me.

What in the world do leaping lords, French hens, swimming swans, andespecially the partridge who won't come out of the pear tree have to dowith Christmas?

Today I found out.

From 1558 until 1829, Roman Catholics in England were not permittedto practice their faith openly. Someone during that era wrote this carol as a catechism song for young Catholics.

It has two levels of meaning: the surface meaning plus a hiddenmeaning known only to members of their church. Each element in the carol has a code word for a religious realitywhich the children could remember.

The partridge in a pear tree was Jesus Christ.
Two turtle doves were the Old and New Testaments.
Three French hens stood for faith, hope and love.
The four calling birds were the four gospels of Matthew, Mark, Luke&John.
The five golden rings recalled the Torah or Law,the first fivebooks of the Old Testament.
The six geese a-laying stood for the six days of creation.
Seven swans a-swimming represented the sevenfold gifts of the HolySpirit: Prophesy, Serving, Teaching, Exhortation, Contribution, Leadership, and Mercy.

The eight maids a-milking were the eight beatitudes.
Nine ladies dancing were the nine fruits of the Holy Spirit:Love,Joy, Peace, Patience, Kindness, Goodness, Faithfulness, Gentleness, and Self Control.
The ten lords a-leaping were the ten commandments.
The eleven pipers piping stood for the eleven faithful disciples.
The twelve drummers drumming symbolized the twelve points of beliefin the Apostles' Creed.

So there is your history for today. This knowledge was sharedwith me and I found it interesting and enlightening and now I know howthat strange song became a Christmas Carol...so pass it on if you wish.

Subukan ninyo itong puntahan!

Pananagutan natin ang ating kapuwa

buhay at kamatayan

oo, totoo
may buhay ang tao
ngunit sa tuwing pag-iisipan ko ito
laging sumasagi
sa marupok kong isip
na buhay ko'y maikli.

minsan namatay
ang kapatid ng isang kaibigan
at dinala ako
ng aking isip sa pagmumuni-muni.

sa buhay
may saya at lungkot
kung wala ang mga ito
parang hindi kumpleto

pagkat ang mga ito ang nagbibigay
kulay
sa bawat yugto ng pakikiharap
sa bawat umaga
sa ating buhay...

hindi nga maiiwasan ang sakit
at kamatayan
ngunit lagi't laging mayroong
Pag-asa.

Paano?
Saan?

Sa mga tao...
sa bawat taong nasasaktan
at nauuna sa atin
sa kabilang buhay,

sila ang bukal
kung paanong
patuloy na lumalalim
at tumitibay ang haligi
ng ating mga pangarap.

Silang mga naging
kaibigan, kapuwa at
kasama

ang nagbigay
kahulugan sa
bawat baitang
sa hagdan patungo
sa ating mga minimithi.

may roon silang mga
pangarap,
maging pangarap
para sa atin
at inaasahan nila tayo
dapat tayong magpatuloy
para sa iba
para sa kapuwa

magmasid
tumingin
at magpatuloy

upang mamangha
sa hiwaga
ng buhay
na minsa'y nawawala...
na parang isang
makulay at lumilipad
na bula...

... ipagpapatuloy...
